Traveling has changed in the last few months and it’s likely you haven’t been on an airplane in a while – a sad note for most of us wanderlusts! As time goes on and restrictions open up in a safe way, we will be packing our suitcases, checking that our passports are valid and visas are confirmed, and we will also need to keep up to date on changes to travel plans.

@terminalBLGA – LaGuardia’s Terminal B recently opened its new building, operating with four airlines. It’s a great source of what shops and restaurants are open and offers updates on the operation;

@flightradar24 – track your flight in real time!

@statedept – the official account for the US Department of State, it will update you about international travel to and from the US, including passports, visas and travel advisories;

@weatherchannel – if you’re staying close to home, The Weather Channel is one of the most trusted sites for the latest weather reports;

xe.com – if you are traveling internationally, this site offers the most up to date currency tools.

Reducing Risks During of Summer Holiday Travel

The July 4th weekend celebrations were tempered by the lessons learned from Covid-19 compliance challenges we experienced during the Memorial Day weekend activities. This holiday weekend seemed to usher in a new dynamic for beaches, parks, bars, outdoor clubs, restaurants and travel with mixed messages from community leaders. Airlines began to focus on adding more flights both domestically and internationally; some started filling all seats on planes.

The holiday uptick in the passenger activity at Newark (EWR) airport, a key international travel hub in the New York region, was partially the result of some international flights being allowed to depart for the first time in month. Some flights required the aid of foreign consulate officials verifying Covid-19 test results, nurses taking temperatures and special transit entry authorization for certain countries before passengers are allowed to complete check in.

As travel continues to evolve during the remainder of this summer season, please remember to seek the latest information from the CDC and to refer to the various travel advisories from local and international organizations such as AAA, the airlines, municipal websites, Consulate or Embassy websites and the State Department. Continue to follow guidelines like wearing a face mask in public places, practicing proper hygiene by washing hands frequently and using sanitizer and keeping six feet apart when communicating or waiting in line for various services. Enjoy the remainder of the summer; it’s never too early to plan a safe and fun-filled Labor Day weekend for you and your friends & family.
